The Purpose
The purpose of this study is to get a better understanding of predation that is happening between the moose and wolf on the island.
Why does this study Matter?
The Isle Royale Wolf and Moose Study is very important because it is trying to find trends in the predation levels between the wolf and moose on an island where these animals cannot be harmed by humans. The island is isolated from the mainland making it a great place to conduct this study. Over the past 50 years, ecologists have studied the trends of the populations of the moose and wolf. Why do ecologists continue to do this study? One reason is that the National Park Service (NPS) is taking a while to help with this problem. Another reason is because Isle Royale in unlike most other islands in the world where no humans live. The wolves and moose are not impacted by the visitors to the island and the location offers an incredible ecosystem for them to co-exist.
